In 1966 after the tour John returned to London and existed by playing session work and in jazz clubs.

As John had enjoyed the experience with the The Mike Leander Show Band, he decided to form his own band. He called this new group The Boston Show Band and they played around clubs in the London area where they were spotted by a German promoter Bruno Koschmeider and was offered a one month contract to play in Germany at the Kaiser Saal in Hamburg. This turned out to be the same Bruno Koschmeider that brought the Beatles to Germany a few years before.

With the long playing hours in Germany we needed more vocalists, so John contacted Paul Raven and asked if he would like to sing with the band in Germany.

The band were proving very successful and word soon spread to other clubs as they were pulling in larger and larger audiences. Manfred Woittalla the owner of the Star Palast Club in Kiel came and saw them perform and invited them to play at his club for the month of June. Manfred later became the manager, and apart from playing in Kiel, they played the Star Club and Top Ten in Hamburg as well as most of the major cities in Germany.
